Too Close to Breathe is Olivia Kiernan's debut offering to the thriller genre, and it reads with the intelligence and grit of a seasoned author. When a successful scientist is found dead in her home, DCS Frankie Sheehan quickly surmises it is not a suicide and is thrust into a race to find a deviant killer. Her search for justice leads her deep into the twisted depths of the dark web. Sheehan, a talented profiler, is an intriguing, flawed protagonist. With this character, the author skillfully handles the realities of PTSD and illustrates how trauma leaves psychological wounds that are often far more crippling than a physical injury. The writing style is immersive, and the plot is well-paced. Too Close to Breathe is a dark, disturbing mystery that kept me turning the pages.
